What is a stretch ceiling ?
A stretch ceiling is a kind of false ceiling (Suspended ceiling, wood ceiling etc… ). This system was invented more than 40 years ago. It has been incorporated in many luxurious projects mostly in Europe but also worldwide. The stretch ceiling is a canvas that is stretched from wall to wall. There are different types of installation hooks (speared or clipped) and different types of canvas (vinyl or fabric). The TENDLight’s stretch ceilings use the latest hanging system called “clipped” and we are the only ones in Canada to offer this installation technique.
What is the difference between the “hooked'' and the ''clipped'' systems ?
The ‘’hooked’’ system is 40 years old … while the ‘’clipped’’ system got introduced in the world of stretch ceiling about 15 years ago. This system is much more comfortable and easy to install and allows more flexibility in some special implementations. The clipped system allows only a lose of ½ inch in height. There is also no risk of weld cracking since no spear is welded on the periphery. Contrary to what you may read about some competitor’s websites, the ‘’snap or clipped’’ system is newer and elsewhere we see other big names who after criticizing the system, eventually adopt it. This system is less expensive so the stretch ceiling i now more accessible to the customers. The ‘’clipped’’ system also need less manipulation of the fabric which avoids marks on glossy finishes. It leaves NO space between the wall and the ceiling unlike the ‘’hooked’’ system. The finish is very discreet. Only 4 mm.
What is a weld in a stretch ceiling?
The manufacturing of TENDLight’s stretch ceilings is done in workshop (New Brunswick) where we weld the strips to obtain the necessary size for the room to achieve. We are the only ones to offer 11 feet widths strips in certain colours, this way we can create a ceiling with no weld in some rooms. We always produce our ceilings so the welding is centered in the room and without extra charge unlike some companies that too many times install without warning a ceiling with a weld at 1/3 of the room or ask to pay an extra 20% in order to have the seal centered.
Why our stretch ceilings are less expensive than the others?
Our stretch ceilings are offered at quite consistent prices. Our slogan is “The stretch ceiling at a fair price! “The prices that we see in Canada among our competitors are prices that observed 25 years ago in Europe, which is no longer the case today. The fact that our product is manufactured in New Brunswick and that we do not weld harpoon also saves on the cost of production. But there is also a will from our company to democratize the stretch ceiling by making it more accessible through lower prices. This has nothing to do with poor quality. And for proof! Is that we welcomed installers of competition who were charmed by our process.
Can I get access behind the ceiling once installed ?
ABSOLUTELY !! The stretch ceiling can be unclipped as many times as necessary by a technician. However, if there was an emergency, with some instructions the client could cut the fabric at 1/4 inch from the edge and the technician could easily reinstall it after. Which is not possible with the ‘’hooked’’ system.
Can the stretch ceiling unhook by itself?
Impossible! The profiles system used by TENDLight is self-locking. More the canvas is stretched more the hardware close on it.
Can we change the fabric colours?
Sure, after a few years, if you want to change the look of your room you could just change at a lower cost by reusing the profiles already installed.
